Khalsa HC first-team promoted to National League

KHALSA Hockey Club’s first XI ensured their place in the National League next season after a comfortable win earned them promotion.

Nottinghamshire side Boots travelled to Leamington on Saturday in a match that was never really in doubt, much in part to the solid back line which frustrated the visiting attack.

Aaron Nagra struck the upright from a penalty corner as Khalsa threatened early on, and went ahead through Alex Idoine’s finish from Sav Lall’s square pass.

They continued to play scintillating hockey and were rewarded with a second – again through Idoine, who thrashed his shot from a penalty corner into the corner.

Patient work in the second-half led to a superb third goal of the game, provided by Adam Croutear.

He dived to meet a driven ball into the centre, and hooked the ball into the net for his first goal for the club.

The points and the promotion were sealed when Idoine claimed his hat-trick from another corner to cap off the victory.

In the final game of the campaign, Khalsa visit second-placed Barford Tigers next week.

Khalsa’s second-team were on the wrong end of an 9-0 scoreline, as their trip to promoted Bridgnorth proved a step too far.

They host fifth-placed Old Halesonians in their final fixture of the season.

Meanwhile, the third XI thrashed Sikh Union Coventry 2’s thanks to Ricky Saund’s double and goals from Sanj Hayer, Dhanraj Saund, Peram Dhillon, Harpreet Hundal and Daljinder Theara.

Elsewhere. Khalsa 4’s were unfortunate in a 4-1 away loss to Warwick, with Satvarg Nijjar scoring their only goal of the game.
