Khalsa jump up to second following Belper win

HOCKEY: KHALSA hosted Derbyshire-based Belper on Saturday for their fourth league encounter this season.

Following victory against Rugby last week, Khalsa were likely to face a stiffer task this time around against Belper, who were undefeated heading into this game.

Khalsa started the stronger of the two sides, pressing the opposition high up the pitch with great success leading to their first goal converted by top scorer Alex Idoine.

Sav Lall doubled Khalsa’s lead after a swift move down the flank between Jas Singh, Jack Wells, and Scott Angliss allowed Lall to cleverly lob the keeper from close range.

Chris Darling, Ben Stephenson and Stuart Colegate were composed at the back throughout the game, however were unfortunate to concede after a deflected ball found the Belper forward to slot the ball past keeper Elliot Rider.

Khalsa continued their relentless attack and were rewarded with some tremdendous stick work from Anit Chudasama with a cool finish past the keeper to make the score 3-1.

Idoine doubled his tally with another sublime finish into the roof of the net from close range closely followed by Joe Colantonio, striking the ball on the half volley into the bottom corner.

Khalsa had fewer opportunities in the second half, the closest from a penalty corner strike comfortably padded away by the keeper.

Sean Robinson deflected a shot agonisingly wide after a piercing run through from the defence into the forward line.

Belper pulled a final goal back in the remaining five minutes with another precise corner finding the net.

Khalsa finished the game with some strong possession claiming all 3 points and to move second in the league.

Khalsa play West Bridgford away next week.
