Ladies make cup progress

Leamington Editorial 17th Oct, 2017   0

RUGBY UNION: OLD Leamingtonians Ladies team advanced to the second round of the Women’s Intermediate Cup with a 62-12 win over Lutterworth.

A strong start for OLs caught Lutterworth off guard, allowing OLs to dominate their 22.

An early chance for Lutterworth from a line-out backfired when second row Kacie Walker turned around OLs’ fortunes to score the home side’s first try of the match.

Centre Hannah Trenholm was next to cross over after ten minutes of play while fly half Vicky Stokes added the conversion.

Another wave of attack from OLs saw hooker Emily Worrall score OLs’ third try of the match.

Further tries from Liz Kennedy, Lois Moulding, and Jen Vermeulen earned OLs a commanding 38 point lead. But that was reduced on the stroke of half time when Lutterworth registered their first try of the game.

Both teams added points to their tally at the start of the second half.

Kennedy – who eventually bagged a hat-trick fought hard to earn OLs opening try of the half while Lutterworth responded with a marker of their own.

Winger Pauline Dumont registered OLs’ last try of the match as the home side won by a comfortable 50 points.
