Late leveller denies Warwick Ladies opening win - men's sides romp to wins over Stratford

KHALSA Leamington Seconds struck late on to deny Warwick Ladies’ first team an opening victory in Division One on Saturday.

Alex Fillmore’s goal looked set to hand Warwick all three points in the local derby, only to be denied by the late intervention by the visiting side.

Both sides started the game at a brisk pace, though Warwick looked the side most likely to break the deadlock.

And so it proved when, after a few promising moves had broken down prior, a short corner played into Fillmore was swept into the back of the net just before the break.

The visitors came back into contention in the second half, though Warwick looked likely to hold on for the win.

But with the hosts missing chances of their own to kill off KL, an equaliser ten minutes from time provided the leveller that Warwick had feared, with no further goals before the whistle sounded for full time.

The women’s second XI enjoyed a fine start to their Division Two campaign, romping to a 5-1 victory at Nuneaton Seconds, while the men’s third, fourth and fifth sides all enjoyed comprehensive victories over Stratford.
