Leahy books National Final spot following tough Parks encounter

BOXING: NICK Leahy booked his spot in this week’s National Final after winning a thrilling bout against Northampton ABC’s Rhys Parks.

The Fitzpatrick’s fighter’s win set up a final date in Liverpool this Saturday against Portsmouth boxer Aaron Rollason in what is set to be a mouth watering contest.

Strong and tough Parks put Leahy in awkward situations throughout the fight though, and the Leamington lad had to work hard for his latest win.

Fast hands and feet helped Leahy through the opening two rounds as he produced some of his best boxing to date to earn him the first two rounds.

Parks caught Leahy with some solid combinations in the third round though, making a final decision difficult to call. But Leahy edged it.

Derek Fitzpatrick said: “Both young men fought superbly.

“Parks is the best opponent Nick has had to face in this process by some way.

“He’s a great man too and will be travelling up to support Nick in the final, which will be a great contest.”
