LEAMINGTON Hockey Club’s U10’s girls side impressed at the Midlands Regional Finals on Sunday, despite being one of the youngest teams at the tournament.
The girls were left with short time for preparation, having been granted a place in the finals after a team from Shropshire withdrew – after initially missing out on a qualification place following a third place finish in the Warwickshire Finals.
But it proved to be a productive day of action at the Nottingham Hockey Centre in Beeston, as Leamington finished third in their pool – winning three and losing three of their opening matches.
They were involved in a fifth place play-off against Lichfield, who also finished third in their pool, but lost out 3-1 to finish sixth overall out of 14 teams.
It was enough to rank them the best Warwickshire side appearing at the finals, with Stratford and Rugby also being represented, and goes down as a promising result for the young side.
