Leamington scoop multiple gold medals at opening County Championships

SWIMMING: LEAMINGTON were well represented at the opening round of the Warwickshire Swimming Championships in Coventry.

The day started off in winning style as youngster George Gloster, Henry Hoare, Thomas Dilley and Isaac Morrison teamed up to take gold in the 200m medley, beating Nuneaton to the top spot.

It didn’t take long for Leamington’s second gold to come in as 12-year-old Joseph Deavail comfortably won the 1,500m freestyle.

The afternoon also saw Philip Warren swim to victory in the boys 16 years and over 50m butterfly, he beat his nearest rival by just three milliseconds.




Abigail Jolly, Teigan Parker, Molly Quelch and Laura Griffiths helped Leamington bag their fourth gold in the 400m medley team event ahead of City of Coventry and Leamington White.

Griffiths and Quelch went on to dominate freestyle for their age groups, taking gold in both the 50m and 100m events.


Quelch also finished first in the 100m butterfly, meaning she won the most individual golds for Leamington over the weekend.

Further team success came in the 200m freestyle with Leamington taking gold in the boys 10/12 years and girls 13/15 years.

Leamington girls also took first place beating City of Coventry by a massive 5 seconds in the 13/15 years 200m medley.

Two more golds were won by Henry Hoare in the boys 10/11 years 50m and 100m breaststroke, a race which finished with Leamington taking the top three places.

Jason Herbert also finished first in the boys 10/13 years 200m butterfly.

The final weekend of the championships takes place this weekend.
