Local runners in action at Coventry Easter event

THERE were plenty of local runners in action at the Massey Ferguson Easter 5 event which was staged at Coventry’s Memorial Park on Sunday.

This year’s race was number one in the Warwickshire Road Race League and also doubled up as the first race in the Summer Series Championships.

A total of 29 Kenilworth Runners too part and it was Andrew Siggers who impressed the most after crossing the line in 28.35 to claim third place, while Richard Simkiss secured sixth in a time of 29.02.

Although there were no team prizes on offer in the race, Marc Curtis (21st), Dave Ramus (25th), Peter Bryan (28th) and Stewart Underhill (34th) completed the first team home for the Warwickshire Road race League.




Kenilworth ladies were also in fine form with Sarah Rose finishing 33rd overall and third fastest lady in 32.27.

Mel Price was the fourth lady over the line in 32.46 and Danielle Bryan was the fifth in 33.25. The trio were well supported by a further eight ladies all running well throughout the field.


There was also a strong group of runners from Spa Striders running club with the club victory going to Paul Edwards who finished 22nd overall in 30.54.

Chris McKweon finished just eight places behind in a time of 32.11, while Luca Tomaselli was 39th in 32:38.

Carolyn Wilkinson was the first Strider lady home, finishing first in the F45 category, which she moved into this year.

The race was won by Andrew Peat of Birchfield Harriers in 26.54 and in the lady’s race Great Britain marathon Olympian Claire Hallissey, from the Bristol & West club, was first home in 30.08.
