McKeown and Hinton lead way for Spa Striders in third round of race league

SPA Striders played host to the third round of the Warwickshire Road Race League last Thursday.

Chris McKeown (28:54) led the way for Striders in the Ryton 5km, finishing in 15th place while Ian Allen (29:42) took 24th, Neil Smith (29:44) took 25th and Adam Notley (29:56) took 27th.

Dave Mills (30:23) and Simon Ludford (32:44) completed the men’s scoring team.

Chris Wilson (32:57), Rob Egan (33:33), Rob Mantell (34:27), Martin Osicka (38:51) also finished.




Clare Hinton (34:03) was first female Strider followed by Carolyn Wilkinson (36:00), Monika Coleman (39:28), Ruth Tennant (39:29), Julie Walsh (39:57), Clare Bryan (39:57), Jenny Owen (40:26) and Sandra Stokes (42:41).

Across the Channel, Jo and Dan Fleming headed to the Mont Saint-Michel Marathon weekend.


In extremely hot temperatures Dan completed the half marathon in one hour 43 minutes while Jo finished the full marathon in four hours and eight minutes.

Up in Scotland, Pete Teevan and Kerry Jones-Leggatt took on the Edinburgh Marathon.

Teevan set a new personal best of 3:14.58 and Kerry completing her debut in 4:14:07.

Facing a mix of thunder storms, heavy showers and muggy heat, almost 50 Striders made up four teams taking on this year’s Hilly 100.

In what was a fantastic day of running and supporting across the 100-mile race through the Cotswolds, Spa Striders Ladies team took third place.
