Old Leamingtonians U18s win Bob Coward Colts Cup

OLD Leamingtonians under-18s won the Bob Coward Colts Cup following a comprehensive 33-0 victory over Stratford.

OLs had never reached a final before and brought with them a travelling band of club officials, parents, friends and current and ex-players and they were not to be disappointed.

Conditions were not favourable for both teams with the April drizzle a constant companion.

OLs were awarded two early penalties and the trusty book of Will Davies made it 6-0.

Stratford looked up for the game and the early exchanges were tight with some big hits from both teams.

However, it was OLs who took charge midway into the first period as the pack started to dominate the set pieces and provide the backs with plenty of ball and territory.

A late tackle from the Stratford No.8 saw him yellowed for seven minutes and OLs pounced to score a try through Callum Semple to make it 11-0.

The OLs forwards remained on top and the lively Brennan Lumby was next to touch down to put his side 16-0 up before Alex Witchell crossed the whitewash to make it 21-0 at the break.

An early try in the second half from Kai Bailey got OLs off to a flier with Davies adding the extras to stretch the lead to 30-0.

The game was then wrapped up with yet another kick and chase from Davies, this time a lengthy grubber was expertly gathered by Ben Hawkes who used his express pace to go over in the corner.
