Old Leamingtonians youngsters reach final of the Ghent Easter Rugby Festival

RUGBY UNION: THE FUTURE looks bright for Old Leamingtonians after the club’s under-15s finished as runners-up at the prestigious Ghent Easter Rugby Festival.

Old Leamingtonians powered their way into the final before falling just short against champions St Albanians RFC.

Despite being pitted against Belgian and Dutch under-16 sides, plus the Dutch South West U16 Rugby Academy and a powerful Worcester U15 side, OLs went unbeaten throughout their three pool matches.

In their first pool match, OLs were straight up against the Dutch Academy and it was fly-half Joe Dick who who scored the only score of the game.

Further pool victories came against Worcester, the hosts Ghent U16s and Oisterwijk Oysters U16s from Holland, before meeting the Dutch Academy side again in the thrilling semi-final.

The second meeting of these two sides panned out in similar fashion to the first, with OLs absorbing huge pressure, before taking the lead with another superb Dom Woolvine try. The match ended with OLs firmly on top and within a whisker of further scores.

Although narrowly losing the final against a quite excellent St Albanians side, OLs’ performance provided a superb end to another highly successful season.
