OLs climb up to sixth with Alcester win

RUGBY UNION: OLD Leamingtonians moved up to sixth place in the Midlands 3 West (South) division after thumping Alcester 48-3 at home.

OLs started the game as they intended to continue.

Before Alcester had touched the ball, OLs had registered their first try when second row Joe Talamini crossed the line in the right hand corner within a minute of the game starting.

Though the conversion was missed, OLs extended their lead when John Carlos recorded OLs’ second try of the match two minutes later.

Alcester were put under continuous pressure throughout the opening half as a rampant OLs fifteen enjoyed maximum possession.

Their hard work was rewarded again on 12 minutes when full back Tom Eales recorded try number three between the posts, which Mark Foley converted.

OLs penalty count was pretty high throughout the game and Alcester did get on the scorecard with a converted penalty kick.

But OLs continued to dominate the match and further tries followed, two from centre Simon Hemming and another from Tom Eales – all three of which were converted by Mark Foley to give OLs a half time lead of 36-3.

Though six first half tries put the game beyond Alcester’s reach, OLs continued to press and were soon 37 points ahead when winger Ciaran O’Connor crossed over.

Skipper Reece Jones then chipped in with OLs’ eighth try while O’Connor’s conversion made it 48-3.

The scoreline was to remain the same until the final whistle.

Old Leamingtonians are next in action against newly promoted Bromyard RFC. Kick off is at 2.15pm.
