Plymouth raided by Bears on the road

Leamington Editorial 25th Feb, 2019   0

WARWICKSHIRE Bears Wheelchair Basketball Club were in rampant form on Saturday, when they ran out 80-37 winners over Plymouth Raiders in Division Two South.

Bears 2 were eager to get back to winning ways after losses in their last two matches, but responded in fine style to get back on track and take second place in the league.

Head coach Daz Peasley had a full squad available to him on the long trip down south to Plymouth, but did not look slightly wearied by the travelling as they burst out the traps with a 20-10 lead by the first-quarter end.

Ian Beach marshalled his defence well and ensured that Bears let up only six points in the second-quarter.

Going into half-time with a 40-16 lead was an encouraging sign for Bears, allowing Peasley to rotate his bench players into the game at the same time.

Warwickshire continued to dominate to lead 61-27 at the end of the third period, then the final scoreline of 80-37 – capped off by Adrian Taber’s buzzer beating three pointer that sunk into the net.

Peasley was appreciative of the spectacle that both sides put on, and urged his side on for the final months of the campaign.

“A big thank you to Raiders who gave us a great game, the scores don’t reflect how hard they worked,” he said.

“It was nice to have my full squad today and to get back to winning ways again. We need to just push now till the end of the season and try secure a play-off spot/”

Bears Cubs are the next side to represent the club, when hosting the latest round of the Lord Tavernier’s Junior League.

The matches will be held at Warwickshire College Sports Centre – on Stratford Road in Henley-in-Arden (B95 6AB) – on Sunday March 3, with free entry to all interested in attending.
