LEAMINGTON’s Gabinder Cheema became a world champion powerlifter in the 100kg class at the World Single Lift Championships held in Maromme, France.
Cheema competed in the equipped bench press masters 1 category and pressed 160kg before just failing in his attempt at 170kg at the end of last month.
He will now train ahead of competing at the European Championships in September which take place in Aylesbury.
Cheema was supported in France by his family, parents and daugther Daya and lifts for the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association.
His most recent title came after he set a new West Midlands record at the West Midlands Powerlifting Championships back in January as he lifted 152.5 kilograms to break his own record.
