Roddy and Gould lead the way for Kenilworth

KENILWORTH Runners Patrick Roddy and Phil Gould represented Warwickshire in the Inter-Counties XC meet at Cofton Park in Birmingham on March 7.

Roddy finished 85th overall while Roddy, who relishes in muddy courses, was disappointed to find fairly dry conditions underfoot and good weather on the day, but managed to finish in 169th position.

Several local runners took part in the Draycote Water 10-mile event on Sunday, which takes in two laps of the course.

Four Spa Striders were in action and it was Victor Garanto who took the win in a fantastic time of one hour and 56 seconds.




Fellow Strider Hartwig Busch finished 19th in 1:11:13, while Marcel Genssen took 38th in 1:17:42 and Maria Koecher crossed the line in 1:33:39 to finish 100th overall.

Six Kenilworth Runners tackled the course and strong headwind with Rachel Miller celebrating her birthday with a strong run after coming home 22nd overall which placed her as the fifth fastest female in a time of 1.12.58.


Miller was followed by Laura Pettifer (31st) in 1.14.18 and Jenny Philpott (39th) in 1.17.56.

Tom Dable crossed the line in 1.24.08 to claim second place in the MV60 category, Pauline Dable finished 107th overall but won the LV60 cateogry in 1.35.31 and Gail Bates came 138th out of 161 runners 1.44.21.

Elsewhere, Kenilworth Runners’ Marc Curtis ran strongly at the Milton Keynes Festival of Running 20 mile race which was also staged on Sunday.

Curtis finished the race in 25th position in a new personal best time of 2:14:59.

Fell club member Matt Griffiths also ran well to finish 77th also in a new personal best time of 2:28:59, while Ben Sandham finished 437th in 3:11:16 and Sophie Cookson 536th in 3:30:41.

Spa Strider Simon Parsons also travelled down to Milton Keynes and finished 93rd overall in 2:31:49.
