ROUND UP: Quartermaine steals the show by landing 60kg English Elite Belt

BOXING: DANNY Quartermaine lifted the vacant 60kg Elite English Belt on Saturday night as Clearys Boxing Gym hosted its bi-annual show.

Quartermaine, who faced Lewis Frimpony from Evolve Boxing Academy, was made to work hard throughout the three-round contest, but won by unanimous decision.

His bout was made harder after receiving a blow just above his left eye during the opening round, which prompted the fight to be stopped on two occasions.

Frimpony made Quartermaine work hard and proved a tough customer.

With neither fighter able to land a solid blow throughout, Quartermaine’s speed, patience, and combination work towards the end of the fight helped him land the senior title.

Elsewhere Cameron Tait continued to improve with a confidence boosting win over Damon Black of Genesis ABC.

Tait, who’s improvement can be put down to his heavy workrate in the gym, fought back from a tough opening round to land the 85kg contest.

There was also a win for Jake Finch, who moved up to elite level, to beat Brad Heeley.

Finch proved a tough customer throughout the fight and won in comfortable fashion, wearing down his British Army opponent in the final round.

Ricky Atwell couldn’t add to his winning tally when he lost out to Callum Hill while Matt Archer’s fight was stopped early against a powerful John Marvin.
