RUGBY UNION - Chamberlain hat-trick secures sensational comeback win for Leamington

CONNOR Chamberlain scored a stunning hat-trick as Leamington RFC produced an extraordinary second-half comeback to beat Earlsdon 27-20 – having trailed by 15-points at half-time.

Chamberlain scored his side’s only try of the first period before dotting down two further times in the final few minutes to end Leamington’s three game winless run.

The result means Leamington are now ninth in the Midlands 2 West (South) table after securing just their second win of the season in Coventry.

Leamington struggled to deal with the severe weather conditions in the opening 40 minutes with Chamberlain’s score representing their only points of the half.

And Earlsdon extended their lead on the stroke of half-time when they drove over from a lineout to lead 20-5 at the interval.

However, with the strong winds now in their favour – Leamington made a quick start to the second period.

Sam Nunn’s exquisite break set Rich McKowen away towards the Earlsdon line with Gareth Shuttleworth eventually touching down to finish off a fine team move.

And Leamington soon had their third try when wing Ian Cameron crashed over in the corner with Nunn successfully kicking the conversion from the touchline.

The comeback was complete when slick hands from Nunn and McKowen created space for Chamberlain who broke clear and edged the visitors into a narrow two-point lead.

And Chamberlain completed the scoring in devastating fashion when he picked up a loose ball and ran in for his hat-trick from inside his own 22.

Leamington are next in action at home to Evesham on Saturday, December 4 at Moorefields.
