KENILWORTH RFC claimed two points losing bonus points in a narrow 34-27 defeat against fellow strugglers Derby.

The home side picked up their first points of the season thanks to two tries from Charlie Morris and further scores from Charlie Moffat and Will Morgan at Glasshouse Lane.

And the result means Kenilworth remain bottom of the Regional 1 Midlands table having lost all five of their league matches this season.

Derby scored the game’s first try through Sam Tebbs as Josh Bingham kicked the conversion after just five minutes.

However, Kenilworth responded three minutes later when Moffat touched down and Morgan kicked the extras.

And the home side scored again as Morris profited from a lineout drive 10-metres out to dot down his first try of the match.

The visitors levelled the game with an unconverted try of their own to send the teams in all square at 12-apiece at the break.

Kenilworth reclaimed the lead after the break as Morgan chased his own grubber kick to score under the posts and converted his own score.

And the home side took a 12-point lead when Morris dotted down his second try of the game from another driving maul at a lineout.

However, Derby reduced the deficit with their third try just before the hour mark, converted by Bingham.

Derby turned the game back in their favour with their bonus point try at a lineout as Bingham converted from out wide.

A superbly struck penalty from Morgan from 35-metres out edged Kenilworth back in front only for Bingham to kick a penalty of his own.

And after another Derby penalty hit the post, the visitors reacted quickest to seize the loose ball and score the game’s final try.

Kenilworth are next in action against Dudley Kingswinford on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 2pm at Heathbrook.
