RUGBY UNION - Old Leamingtonians stay perfect with Bromyard whitewash

Leamington Editorial 30th Nov, 2021   0

ADAM Stannard ran in a hat-trick of tries as Old Leamingtonians RFC maintained their perfect start to the season with a 41-0 whitewash of Bromyard.

Stannard crossed three times in the second-half adding to tries from Reece Jones, Archie Semple, Joe O’Loghlen and David Canning.

The result means Old Leamingtonians have now won all eight of their Midlands 3 West (South) matches this season and are eight points clear of nearest challengers Ledbury at the top of the table.

And the scoring began when back row Jones touched down on 10 minutes after the Bromyard pack was driven back at a lineout.

The Bromyard defence was breached again on the half hour mark when a sweeping move ended with wing Semple crossing in the corner to send the home side into the break with a 10-point lead.

Old Leamingtonians held firm at the start of the second period to repel some sustained Bromyard pressure before scoring a breakaway try that went the length the field with back row O’Loghlen touching down.

And after Henry Reynolds converted – the home side blew their opponents away with a flurry of tries.

Stannard grabbed his first before stand-off Canning also dotted down with the former running in a further two tries to complete his hat-trick after some strong forward pressure – one of which was converted.

The seven-try win means Old Leamingtonians have now picked up seven bonus points from their eight wins and have nilled their opponents on the road for the third time this season.

Old Leamingtonians are next in action at home to Burbage on Saturday, December 4 at The Crofts.
