TABLE TENNIS: KELLY Sibley jetted back from Europe satisfied with her performance which saw the Leamington-based player reach the knockout stage of the Polish open.
Ranked 197 in the world, Sibley – who was unseeded for the event – won her group, though needed to come from 3-0 down to beat Veronika Perebeinos of Ukraine in her first match.
Sibley finally won 4-3 ((8-11, 9-11, 11-13, 11-7, 13-11, 11-3, 11-9).
A more routine 4-1 win over Finland’s Anna Kirichenko (11-5, 4-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-3), put Sibley into the competition’s main draw.
She faced the experienced Sarah De Nutte – ranked 130 – of Luxembourg in the first round and was defeated 4-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-8, 12-10).
Elsewhere in the doubles Sibley and Karina Le Fevre had a good 3-1 (11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 17-15) win over Marie Migot (FRA) & Andrea Todorovic (SRB) in their first match.
But hopes of further progress were stopped when the pair were eliminated in the final preliminary round by Melek Hu of Turkey & Wenting Ma of Norway, who won 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-5).
