Ben Tyler 20th Nov, 2019

SPA Striders travelled en masse to the Cotswolds and were successful in their bid for silverware at the Broadway Marathon and Half Marathon.

Chris McKeown was triumphant in the half marathon, crossing the line in first in an hour and 37 minutes, while Bethan Gwynn ranked as the fastest lady in the marathon event – which she completed in just over four-and-a-half hours.

Gethyn Friswell (1:57:20), Rich Sykes (2:02:26), Anne Hurrell (2:13:56), Kevin Baskerville (2:23:01), Andy Roach (2:23:36), Lucy Tugwell (2:24:09), Sandra Stokes (2:27:04) and the duo of Lucy Marcovitch & Ruth Tennant (both 2:29:54) then followed behind McKeown.

Keith Wilson (4:26:44) finished slightly ahead of Gwynn in the overall rankings, placing 17th overall in the marathon results, setting the example for Jack Gammon (4:55:44), Ville Tiitola (4:57:16), Ash Hogg (5:42:05) and Paul Harris (6:13:28) to follow in behind.

The quartet of Ves Hill, Andrew Pope, Roz Cox and Peter Schofield suffered a setback when being told that they had missed the cut-off time in the marathon race around the 17-mile mark.

Despite this, Hill, Pope and Schofield were determined to finish the course regardless and did so in just over eight hours.

In Northumberland, Claire Westrope overcame the boggy course at the Wooler Trail Half Marathon to finish just under four hours, while Lucy Burnett battled similar conditions at the Derby 10k to cross the line in 1:26:51.

Further afield, Gary Perkins was sunning it up in contrast at the Larnaka Half Marathon in Cyprus, placing 427th in a 02:09:07 time.
