Southam darter Evetts triumphs on Development Tour

Craig Gibbons 15th Jun, 2018

SOUTHAM’S Ted Evetts was victorious on the PDC Development Tour on Sunday afternoon as he came through a field of more 200 players to claim the title in Wigan, writes Josh Green.

Evatts showed excellent form during the early rounds of the competition by firing in several 90-plus averages.

A win over German prodigy Martin Schindler in the quarter-finals was followed by a 5-2 victory over Dutch talent Melvin de Fijter.

‘SuperTed’ would control the opening exchanges of the final, taking the first three legs with relative ease.

His opponent Dimitri van den Bergh then cut the deficit to one leg before another consistent run of scoring allowed Evetts to seal his first Development Tour title of 2018.

Evetts’ victory over the aforementioned Schindler was his second of the weekend against the German who had gone a whole day unbeaten on Saturday, winning two events in Wigan.

The German number two had recorded three wins on the spin before ‘SuperTed’ averaged 98 en route to end his sensational run.

The former World Championship participant romped into a 3-0 advantage and fended off a late comeback from ‘The Wall’ to claim victory over his experienced opponent.

Evetts’ win on Sunday afternoon takes him to the summit of the PDC Development Tour Order of Merit, narrowly above Schindler.

He will return to competition on September 22 when the Development Tour rolls on to the East of England Arena in Peterborough for a double-header of events.
