Spa Striders' Notley beats the train

Leamington Editorial 22nd Aug, 2019   0

SPA Striders were depleted in the number of club runners out in force at the weekend, but that did not stop the remaining members from prospering.

In Tywyn, Wales, two Striders took part in the 36th annual Race the Train event – a competition self-explanatory by name.

Adam Notley came 35th and beat the steam train by just under seven minutes with a time of 1:41:49, whilst Steve Taylor fell just short, finishing three minutes and six seconds after the train had arrived at the finish point of the 14-mile event.

The club were well represented in the MFRC Corporate 5k, with Ian Allen, Chris Liddle and Chris McKeown winning the overall team trophy with a combined time of just over 50 minutes, with the latter going sub-17 minutes for the first time.

Elsewhere, Shaun Martin completed the Windsor 5k in 23:13, shaving off a minute for a new personal best time, while James Hodges headed for Denmark to compete in the Ironman Copenhagen, where he finished IN 11:42:53.
