Spartans beaten by Hawks once more

Leamington Editorial 7th Feb, 2020   0

LEAMINGTON Spartans were unable to make amends for their narrow Bob Castledine Memorial Cup defeat after going down 82-70 to Aylesford Hawks in a Division One encounter.

Hawks were victors once more in the WBA League, having beaten Spartans 81-80 in their cup clash a week earlier.

In a high-scoring opening quarter at Newbold Comyn, Murat Kaciran – who racked up 30 points in total – made a number of successful runs to the Hawks basket as Leamington led 20-16 going into quarter two.

Max Barraud (22 points) added a number of points after emerging from the bench, although the Hawks’ Joel De Lara Bond and Tom Grayling – who provided 45 points between them – helped overturn the advantage to give Aylesford an 38-36 lead at half-time.

From that point on, the lead did not change hands, with the Hawks carrying a 58-53 lead into the final quarter before extending it further to earn their sixth win of the season.

Spartans have now lost six this season, winning just three, to leave Russell Dunkley’s side second-bottom in the table.
