MARIAM Eissa, from Kenilworth, won the under-19 girls’ title at the Nottingham English Junior Championships.

The 15-year-old, who plays for Kenilworth Tennis, Squash and Croquet Club, captured the title in style.

Eissa went one better than last year to lift the trophy and claim her fourth English Junior Championships title.

She overpowered Buckinghamshire’s Emily Coulcher-Porter in the final, triumphing 11-6, 11-4, 11-4 to win in straight sets.

Eissa said: “I feel absolutely amazing. All the hard work that I put into every game, every session – I feel like it’s finally picking up.

“I owe Emily a big thanks for always giving me great finals. We’ve had so many battles and I’m sure we’ll continue having them.”

Kenilworth’s head coach, Steve Townsend, added: “This is a phenomenal achievement, were very proud of her.”

Eissa went into the competition as the top-seeded player and was one of two winners from Warwickshire at the Championships.
