LEAMINGTON Lawn Tennis and Squash Club (LLTSC) reached the semi-finals of the European Club Squash Championships in London.
The team of Jason Pike, Howard Lancashire, Rory Richmond, Owain Taylor and Declan James qualified for the prestigious tournament after winning the National Club Championships for the first time in the club’s history last month.
Leamington lost to eventual winners and hosts Roehampton in the semi-finals as James scored his club’s only point in a 3-1 defeat.
And Leamington just missed out on bronze following a narrow 2-1 defeat in a play-off against Liechtenstein-based club SRCV.
That came after Leamington edged out Edinburgh in the quarter-finals in a match which finished 2-2 although LLTSC won one more game than the Scottish side across four rubbers to advance.
Leamington topped Pool C to reach the knockout stages after thrashing Danish club Herlev/Hjorten 4-0 and then beat future bronze medal opponents SRCV 3-1 losing just one rubber and four games along the way.
Club member Dan Bradbury covered the team’s expenses for the European Club Squash Championships.
