LEAMINGTON Royals secured an impressive 3-1 victory against St George’s Hill Knights in the Optasia Squash Super League (SSL).
The Royals came from behind to secure their second victory of the season as Ben Smith, Satomi Watanabe and Declan James all won their respective games.
And the result lifts Leamington up to second in the SSL standings, three points behind leaders Chichester Centurions.
St George’s made the perfect start as Miles Jenkins beat Leamington’s Owain Taylor 8-11, 11-5, 11-5 in the club hero match.
However, Smith defeated compatriot Will Salter 11-4, 11-5 in the under-25 rubber to draw the Royals level.
The game of the night saw Leamington’s Watanabe claim a thrilling straight sets victory against Jasmine Hutton in the women’s professional game.
The two top-20 players delivered an enthralling contest as Watanabe won the first game via a sudden-death tie break.
And Watanabe clinched another absorbing second game to triumph 11-10, 11-9 in just over half an hour.
The Royals sealed the points in the men’s professional game as James beat home favourite Charlie Lee 11-4, 11-7.
Leamington return to the court on Friday, March 7 to take on Coolhurst Cavaliers.
