LEAMINGTON Royals will make their highly-anticipated home debut in the Optasia Squash Super League (SSL) later this week.

The Royals welcome Bristol Buccaneers to Guy’s Cliffe Avenue with the visitors playing their first-ever game in the competition.

The fixture takes place on Friday, January 17 with the action to begin at 7pm.

Leamington, the 2024 national club squash champions, drew with Coolhurst Cavaliers in their first SSL game back in November.

However, the Royals missed out on a bonus point after losing 89-86 overall on points won.

Royals team manager and head coach, Jason Pike said: “We’re really looking forward to our first home game and welcoming the Buccaneers to Leamington.

“Tickets sold out in hours and the match line-ups suggest we are going to be in for a fantastic night of squash.

“It’s also great that the Royals’ players will provide some coaching for our adult and junior members before the match starts.

“Hopefully we can get our first win on the board before we travel to St George’s Hill Knights on Valentine’s Day.

“None of this would have been possible without our sponsors, Napton Cidery and Arrow Precision Engineering, who are both associated with the club, and who have agreed to support this opportunity and help bring world class squash to our doorstep.

“A massive thanks to them for their support.”

Lining up for the Royals are Victor Crouin, Lucy Turmel, Olivia Besant and captain Owain Taylor.

France’s world number 12 Crouin will lead the charge for the Royals against England’s Patrick Rooney.

And England number four Turmel makes her female professional debut against Canadian number one Hollie Naughton.

Next in action are the under-25 women as Besant faces Malaysia’s Yasshmita Jadishkumar with almost 100 places between the two players in the world rankings.

And club heroes Taylor and James Peach will finish the evening’s play.
