Striders host traditional Comyn cross-country race

RUNNING: THE traditional Spa Striders cross-country handicap event took place at the weekend across Newbold Comyn.

A record-breaking 43 Striders took on the challenge, with the winner earning the prize of organising the 2018 event.

Last year’s winners Rebecca Lonergan and Josh Layton organised Sunday’s race.

There was a 20 minute gap between the first and last Striders being set off as Clare Bryan and Lloyd Harriman powered to victory.

Prior to the cross-country race, Tim Beresford completed the Robin Hood Off Road Duathlon. The race involved a 5km run, 20km cycle, and 3.4km run to finish.

Tim finished fourth overall in a time of 1hr 33mins – earning him first place in the 35-39 age category.

Peter Schofield completed the same event in 2hrs 27mins.

Striders were even represented across the big pond as Pete Teevan completed the New York Marathon in 3hrs 20mins, a new PB.
