Striker Dan Newton leaves Leamington Brakes

Leamington Editorial 14th May, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

STRIKER Danny Newton has informed Brakes manager Paul Holleran that he will be leaving the club this summer.

Newton moved to Brakes in January 2014 and has enjoyed a successful season on a personal level having picked up a hat-trick of awards at the club’s annual end of season presentation evening.

He took home the top goalscorer trophy before also winning the Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year Awards.

But manager Paul Holleran has confirmed this week that Newton will not be at Brakes for the 2015/16 campaign and is expected to sign for Tamworth.

“The lure of Conference North football was too strong for Danny,” said Holleran. “In the end it was not about the money as we made him a very good offer.

“Danny has progressed as a striker since he came to our club and inevitably that has led to him being a target for other clubs.

“I wish him well and you never know what the future holds.  Whilst he will be difficult to replace, at least it is early in the close season and we have plenty of time to bring replacements in.”
