LEAMINGTON Spa Amateur Swimming Club (LSASC) won their first ever silver medal at the English National Summer Championships in Sheffield.

The club had five swimmers qualify to take part in the Championships held over five days at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

And fresh from her success at the recent British Summer Championships, Teia Hendley, aged 15, won silver in the 50m butterfly having qualified fourth fastest for the final.

Hendley raced alongside teammate Annabel Crees, also aged 15, in the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle finals as both swimmers posted personal best times.

The other club members taking part were Jason Herbert, Charlie Rounce and Axel Martin who all produced strong swims in their respective races with the latter swimming at his first national event.

Head Coach Graham Nash said: “A successful English Championships marks the end of a truly remarkable season for the club, with so many great achievements.

“This includes reaching our first ever National Arena League national final, topping the Nuneaton and District Junior League table and qualifying for the regional final, sending record numbers of swimmers to four separate national competitions, as well as winning our first ever medals at the British Summer Championships.

“All the swimmers throughout the club have been fantastic all season and a big thanks to all my fellow coaches for all their dedication over the year to ensure our swimmers reach their potential.”
