SWIMMING - Leamington Spa Amateur Swimming Club reach National Arena League final

LEAMINGTON SPA AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB (LSASC) have qualified for the National Arena Swimming League National ‘B’ Final for the first time in the club’s 137-year history.

The team, aged nine to 19, competed over three rounds in the Autumn – racing in a mixture of individual events and team relays.

And strong swimming and great teamwork earned Leamington qualification to the regional final in December where they competed against some of the best clubs in the Midlands.

LSASC needed a top-two finish to secure their place at the National finals and clinched second place after collecting 182 points to book their place in Cardiff.

Head Coach Graham Nash said: “Qualifying for the Arena League National ‘B’ Final is an amazing achievement for the club, especially considering over 400 clubs in total compete in the league.

“We’re incredibly proud of all our fantastic swimmers – they thoroughly deserve to be in the final. I’d also like to thank everyone involved in the club – in what is a great time in our history.”

The club finished just six points behind eventual winners Leicester Sharks and were 40 points clear of Boldmere A in third place with Redditch, City of Derby and Worcester making up the remainder of the table.

And after a thrilling regional final, in which each swimmer fought hard for every point, the club hope to carry their success into this weekend’s National ‘B’ Final at Cardiff International Pool where they will compete against nine other top clubs from England and Wales.

The other clubs competing in Cardiff are: Swansea Aquatics, City of Peterborough, Camden Swiss Cottage, City of Cardiff, Basildon and Phoenix, Chelsea and Westminster, RTW Monson, City of Norwich and Stockport Metro.

This marks an incredible achievement for the club who continue to go from strength to strength having qualified for the Arena League Junior Grand Final for the first time in their history in 2019.

The coaching team at Leamington is led by Head Coach, Nash, and Director of Swimming, Mike Hartwell, who are supported by dedicated volunteer coaches and teachers.

If you are interested in being part of this exciting club, LSASC offer a full range of swim programmes – from beginners’ lessons from four years old, right through to senior competitive coaching programmes to achieve qualification to compete at National Championships.

The National ‘B’ Final takes place this weekend on Saturday, March 5.
