Ten out of ten for unstoppable Leahy

Leamington Editorial 17th Oct, 2017   0

BOXING: NICK Leahy made it a perfect ten out of ten following his latest win in the National Development Championships.

Taking part in his fifth fight in just four weeks, the Fitzpatrick’s boxer travelled to Bridlington, east Yorkshire, for his latest bout against Leon Simms, champion of Yorkshire and Humberside.

The result provided Leahy with the best 19th birthday present he could wish for as he beat his opponent – seven years his senior – on points.

Simms made life tough for Leahy in the early round though. The home favourite threw plenty of power behind his punches, though the Leamington boxer didn’t allow this to phase him.

Leahy went on the offensive in the concluding round to finish strongly and ultimately win the contest.

Derek Fitzpatrick said: “Nick was exceptional. He showed heart and desire.

“But the key was sticking to his boxing and not getting dragged into a dog fight.”

Leahy will now travel to Liverpool this weekend for the national semi finals.

Elsewhere Leamington boxer Jade Yoemans lost out on a split decision on Friday night in Solihull for her national quarter final.
