The Leamington swimmers who attempt national glory this month

Leamington Editorial 4th Nov, 2019   0

AN unprecedented first has been achieved by Leamington Spa Amateur Swimming Club’s junior team after qualifying for the Arena Junior Inter-League Grand Final.

The team, consisting of nine to 12-year-olds, are the first in LSASC’s 134-year history to reach the Grand Final, which takes place at Corby International Pool on Sunday November 24 against seven other UK finalists.

Leamington’s achievement proves a vindication of the hard work that has been invested by the club’s swimmers and staff, after narrowly missing out on qualification for the Grand Final two years ago.

Finishing third in the Nuneaton and District Junior League back in April, Leamington subsequently earned themselves a place in the regional final in September, where the club finished runners-up to reach the Northern Area final.

Heading to Leeds for the next round of action at the start of October, the club’s juniors successfully arrested their 2017 heartbreak to finish second and seal their Grand Final place.

Head coach Graham Nash was evidently delighted by LSASC’s achievement, and said: “Leamington’s success at junior and senior level in the last ten years has been unprecedented in our history and I would like to thank everyone connected with the club who has made this possible.

“We are all enormously proud of our swimmers.”
