Third place for Wellesbourne Ladies

Craig Gibbons 25th May, 2018

WELLESBOURNE Ladies came third in the first Super Sunday tournament of the year held in Ledbury.

The ladies got off to a flying start with a 2-1 victory over Bredon, thanks to two tries from speedster Becky Hart.

Wellesbourne then had to come from behind in their second game to secure a 3-1 victory over Drybrook.

Hart got all three tries.

Up next for Wellesbourne was Berry Hill and their first try came from captain Natasha Rose.

This was followed up quickly by Rachel Rowles who got the second try.

The third and final try came from Cathy Young.

Unfortunately top scorer Hart was injured in the game meaning Wellesbourne only had seven players for their final pool match against Brecon.

Brecon took an early lead before Wellesbourne battled back to snatch a late equaliser through Rose.

This result ensured Wellesbourne finished top of the pool with seven points from a possible eight.

In the next round the ladies were beaten 5-1 by Ledbury and then lost 3-0 to Pershore in their final match of the tournament.

Despite the two defeats, Wellesbourne came third overall.
