ANOTHER tournament win was recorded by Wellesbourne ladies‘ touch rugby side at Woodrush RFC.
The ladies stormed their way to victory by winning all five of their fixtures, scoring 27 tries in the process, to run out winners at the North East Midlands Ladies Touch League tournament.
Opening with a 3-0 win against Old Laurentians, with tries from Dorothy Bartlett, Natalie Monaghan and Tasha Rose, Bourne followed up with a comprehensive 9-0 thrashing of hosts Woodrush.
Rose and Monaghan both claimed a hat-trick of tries, while Becky Hart, Cathy Young and Bartlett chipped in with the other scores, with Jo Cooper in superb form to ensure a clean sheet was kept.
A 3-1 win followed in game three against tough opposition in Camp Hill, who were ousted courtesy of a second-half comeback.
Chris Wood’s pep talk lifted the spirits of the side, who immediately demonstrated improvements to cross the whitewash three times without reply.
Hart burst down the middle to level, before Rose put her side in front, while Bartlett ensured victory late on by scoring in the corner.
Bourne then confirmed their status as the winners of their pool against Atherstone in style, winning 10-0 thanks to four from Rose, a hat-trick from Hart, a brace for Bartlett and one for Monaghan.
The result pitted Bourne against Redditch in the final – the winners of the other pool.
In a closely-fought final, Monaghan drove her way through the Redditch lines to put Wellesbourne in front, before being released down the wing to score her second of the game.
While Redditch hit back to halve the deficit in the last minute, Wellesbourne were able to hang on and claim another tournament victory.
To add to the celebrations, Cathy Young was named as the player of the tournament, notably laying on five assists in one match during the afternoon.
