WARWICK Boat Club’s second team secured the Warwickshire League Division Six title thanks to a comprehensive 16-7 home win over West Warwickshire on Monday.
Warwick Boat went into the match knowing that 15 points would secure the title but they got off to a shaky start against their third-placed rivals after Martin Smart lost his first string opener 3-0.
But Dave Wall dispatched his opposite number at five with some brutal hitting to record a 3-0 win and Tony Sommersgil had no issues at number four after winning by the same scoreline.
Lloyd Lewis at third string secured the win with a hard fought 3-1 victory which left James Alty with the honour of closing the game out as Warwick Boat went through the whole campaign having not lost a single match.
Lewis said: “This makes all the training, running, sweat and pain worth it.
“This kind of feeling is why we play the sport and to finally get over the line leaves us elated.
“I’m so proud of the effort and progress the squad have made after last seasons relegation and full credit to the club coach Jonathan Peak for developing the squad.
“If we keep this going there is no reason why we cant secure back to back promotions.”
