FOUR-MIDABLE Warwick School are one match away from a Twickenham appearance in the U18s Schools Cup final after reaching the semi-finals for a fourth successive season.
The school’s first XV ground out a 14-8 win against a strong Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Wakefield outfit.
The Yorkshire side went in front from an early penalty but Warwick held off some resulting QEGS pressure and went ahead when Will Mobberley finished off good build-up between teammates Matt Rigby, Harry Spencer and Jack Forsythe.
Fin Smith kicked a penalty to send Warwick 8-3 in front at the break, and he added two more in the second half to guarantee his side matched their previous best from recent seasons, though QEGS grabbed a consolation try narrowing the scores.
A trip to Saracens’ Allianz Park home now awaits on Wednesday March 4, where Warwick and Northampton School for Boys will battle it out for a place in the Twickenham showpiece.
The school have seen off Bloxham, Solihull, Mount St Mary’s College and Bromsgrove in reaching the last four of the competition.
