WARWICK’S under-18s booked their place in the semi-finals of the EHB Tier Two cup with a tense penalty flick victory over Norwich.
Despite their two-and-a-half hour journey, Norwich started the quicker, pressing Warwick back for the opening ten minutes.
Some resolute defending by Dan Murray, Nigel Perry-Ogden, Jack Bennett and Archie Gale kept Norwich’s skillful forwards at bay until a loose ball was scrambled past keeper Adam Mander.
This kicked Warwick into gear and their efforts were rewarded when a slick move down the right was finished off by Oli Hobbs.
Another skillful move for the hosts down the left led to Andrew Dellow lifting the ball over the onrushing keeper only to be fouled which resulted in a penalty flick to make it 2-1 at the break.
After the interval Warwick pressed hard and from a short corner Hobbs was on hand to claim his hat-trick.
But Norwich fought back with their pace and skill to pull one back and then a deserved equaliser to set up a tense final ten minutes.
Warwick held on to force the match to penalty flicks, where the hosts won the toss and elected to go second.
Mander saved the first shot but Matt Leatherdale could not capitalise as he saw his effort saved.
Norwich then scored but Ben Cooper stepped up to score emphatically off the underside of the bar.
The visitors made it 2-1 but Hobbs kept his cool to restore parity.
Norwich missed their third penalty flick which allowed Henry Curran to put Warwick 3-2 up.
After Norwich scored their next, it was down to Dan Murray to hit the winner, confidently stroking home into the corner to secure Warwick’s place in the semi-finals on April 8.
