LAURA Collett, from Leamington, won her first individual Olympic medal with bronze in the eventing jumping at Paris 2024.

Collett began the day by anchoring Team GB to gold in the team eventing and backed up that performance with bronze in the individual jumping event.

The 34-year-old finished with 23.10 penalty points on her horse London 52 to take bronze ahead of fellow GB rider Tom McEwen (25.80) at the Château de Versailles.

Germany’s Michael Jung (21.80) won gold ahead of Asutralia’s Christopher Burton (22.40) who took silver.

Collett told BBC Sport: “I never thought this day would come. I owe absolutely everything to that horse. The team that has made it possible just to get here.

“I am so lucky that I get to be the one to go out there in an arena like that and come out with a team gold and individual bronze at an Olympics, but there are so many people involved and I just want to thank every single one of them.

“It is so many years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears. Emotional rollercoaster doesn’t even do it justice or moments like this every single bad day is worth it. You can’t ever give up and you can never dream too big.

“I thought [gold in] Tokyo was special but this is incomparable. It has blown that out the water. Going out in front of a crowd like this and feeling like every single person is willing you on.

“It felt like Dan felt that too. He tried so hard, I am just the lucky one that gets to steer him. I owe absolutely everything to that horse. This is just a day I will never, ever forget.”
